Position Title: Electrical/Controls Engineer
Reports To: Program Manager
Location: Wallingford, CT
Position Summary:
An immediate opportunity exists for a candidate experienced in supporting electromechanical equipment with a strong electrical and controls background.
Proton Energy Systems, Inc. designs, develops, and manufactures proton exchange membranes (PEM) electrochemical products that it employs in hydrogen generating devices, in hydrogen control systems, and in regenerative fuel cell systems that function as power generating and energy storage devices. Proton Energy's HOGEN® hydrogen generators produce hydrogen from electricity and water in a clean and efficient process using its proprietary PEM technology.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in the development of new products, new features, and product updates including verification and validation
- Define and refine control architectures for commercial industrial products
- Design hardwired controls, including safety systems per industrial machinery codes and standards
- Select components and define interfaces for system instrumentation
- Generate component/sub-system requirement specifications
- Document designs in the form of schematics, BOM, and reports
- Fabricate, integrate, and test systems
- Define system installation and interconnection with utilities
- Support technical service team for fielded products and operations team for product manufacturing
- Provide technical leadership for hardware and software development management (both outside vendors and in-house resources)
- Gather customer needs and then establish clear/concise requirements, models, specifications, HW/SW system architectures, test plans, reports, schematics, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Five years of industry related experience.
- Electrical systems design from concept to fielded hardware
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Motivated self-starter with desire to learn
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to balance multiple tasks
- Must be capable of working well in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Up to 10% travel possible
Education and/or Experience:
- BSEE, or equivalent. MSEE preferred.
Skills and Experience should include most of the following:
- Demonstrated electrical design per machinery codes and standards, e.g. NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 79, IEC 60204-1, etc.
- Component selection and application for systems located in both normal and hazardous areas
- Knowledge of AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion in the 5kW to 50kW range
- Real Time process control using algorithms such as PID or state-space methods
- Decision making skills to analyze and answer tough questions such as make versus buy for single board computers or custom hardware development.
- Experience with programmable logic controllers
- Labview and associated data acquisition systems design and implementation
- Knowledge of communication protocols (CANBUS, MODBUS, etc.)
- Experience with the risk assessment/hazard analysis processes
